MUSIC. On December 5, the Meadows New Music Improvisation Ensemble will
give its first ever independent concert. The concert will take place at 4:30pm in O'Donnell
Recital Hall on the campus of SMU, Dallas. The program will feature the Dallas
premiere of John Cage's 4'33".

Spain, November 2. FIVE YEARS
OF "HIDROGEN". The television program Hidrogen (broadcast by
the Catalonian TV channel "TV de Catalunya"), devoted to the New Age Music,
World Music and alternative musics in general, will celebrate its one hundredth program as
well as its fifth anniversary in the air next January. Hidrogen,
conducted by Albert Reguant, has become the most veteran television
program devoted to alternative musics in Spain.

RENDEZ-VOUS ELECTRO FESTIVAL IN PARIS. The Rendez-Vous Electro Festival
will be held at the Olivier Messiaen Hall, Maison de Radio France, Paris, next December
6th., 7th. and 8th. It will include Electro-Sud, devoted to composers from the south of
France.

CONCERT AT THE PLANETARIUM AT AMSTERDAM. On December 12th., the Planetarium of Amsterdam
(The Netherlands) will offer a recital of compositions by Luciano Berio,
Lightwave, Michel Redolfi, Frank Royon Le Mee and Robert Ashley.
This latter one will give a world premiere via Internet.

THE KNITTING FACTORY'S ALTERKNIT THEATER IN NEW YORK. On December 9th., January 13th., and
February 10th., live concerts by Neil B. Rolnick (synthesizer and
sampler), Andrew Sterman (flute and saxophone), Todd Reynolds
(violin), Steve Rust (bass), Harvey Sorgen (percussion),
and John J.A. Janone (electronics) will be given at the Knitting
Factory's AlterKnit Theater in New York.

TOUR OF SPAIN. According to what Kitaro commented to us, he plans to go
on a tour of Spain in the spring of 1997. Besides performing in Madrid and Barcelona, he
would like to visit at least ten different cities, including the giant natural cavern of
Jameos del Agua at the island of Lanzarote, which is used as an auditorium.

York, within the cycle Electronic Arts Performance.

PARSONS RELEASES HIS LATEST WORK.
UK, November 1. ACTIVITIES BY
RICK WAKEMAN DURING THIS YEAR. During 1996, Rick Wakeman has given
several live concerts. Some of them have taken place at the cathedrals of Winchester and
Chichester. His albums Tapestries (in a collaboration with his son Adam)
and Fields of Green have recently been released. An event that could have become
a tragedy was the plane accident he had as he was landing in Londonderry, Northern
Ireland.
South Africa, November 1. KORA
AWARDS OF AFRICAN MUSIC. The Kora Awards of African Music have been awarded this year to Youssou
N'Dour, from Senegal, and Papa Wemba, from Zaire. Amongst the
other artists to be awarded or having received honorary mentions, most noteworthy is South
African woman singer Miriam Makeba, who as a consequence of apartheid
lived in exile outside South Africa for many years.

COLLABORATION BETWEEN CHIEFTAINS AND CARLOS NUŅEZ. The bridge joining the Celtic music
done in Ireland and the also Celtic music done in Galicia (Northern Spain) is becoming
increasingly obvious. The collaboration between the well-known band Chieftains
and pipebag player Carlos Nuņez has resulted in a joint tour of both, in
which Nuņez has come to be described as a virtual member of the band,
and also the album Santiago, whose title comes from this charismatic Galician
city, has likewise been released.
Germany, November 1. A NEW
ALBUM BY KRAFTWERK? Since Karl Bartos and Wolfgang Flur
have left Kraftwerk, this band, now reduced to the original duo Ralf
Hutter & Florian Schneider, has abandoned public activity even more that it
used to. There are persistent rumours that a new album by Kraftwerk is
soon to be released, yet, since in other occasions this kind of hearsay has ended up as
ungrounded, no one should believe in the truthfulness of this new rumour.

LAST CONCERTS OF THE CYCLE WIEN MODERN '96.
USA, November 1. POSSIBLE NEW
ALBUM BY YANNI IN THE EARLY 1997. As it appears, a new work by Yanni will
be published by early 1997, although as these lines are being written there are no
definite dates to be trusted yet. After the release of the album, hopefully the artist
will engage on a new concert tour. Also there are reports on the preparation of a music
video, based on two of his concerts (at the London Royal Albert Hall). Nowadays, Yanni
lives and works in Los Angeles as well as in Seattle.
