Spain, November 2. On June 13th., 14th. and 15th., 1996, the Sonar international festival of alternative musics in general, and specially devoted to Techno and other genres close to Techno, was held in Barcelona in its third edition. Several institutions took part in the organization of the event. The amount of activities was plentiful, and several of them took place in a simultaneous way. Besides the concerts, there were a number of lectures, discussion panels, exhibitions of interactive arts, sessions with charismatic DJs, spaces with sales stands, rooms equipped with CD-ROM players, CDI, video, and audio, so as to allow all visitors to see and / or listen to works according to their own selections. Sonar also had a remarkable presence within Internet, as the DJs' sessions were broadcast live in the web by means of Real Audio, and also live images of some of the events, apart from the obvious activity, of a more conventional nature, as a forum for the exchange of messages and for the construction of a virtual exhibition. Also, within the events of the festival, the Third Symposium of Electroacoustic Music of Spain, was likewise held then. With respect to the performances given by the different musicians taking part in the event, the most remarkable ones were by guitarist Albert Giménez (an ex-member of Neuronium), Finis Africae (World Music) and Abside (producing an impressive electronic music, with a great dose of imagination, between Techno and Cosmic), among other interesting artists. In previous editions, Sonar has included live performances by Neuronium, Orbital, Holger Czukay, Sven Vath, Suso Saiz, Iury Lech, El Sueño de Hyparco, Jorge Reyes, Macromassa, Fangoria and others.
