STEVE COCHRANE

"THE PUREST OF DESIGNS"

Spirit Compass Music

This new album by Steve Cochrane is also a step forward. A giant leap, in fact. More progressive, The Purest of Designs shows an expanded sound palette where the voice of the artist appears much more frequently than in other, past works. Steve plays all types of guitars, keyboards and he also takes care of the drum programming. Murray Bosh, Marie Bodine and Mary Dube have a special appearance (backing vocals) and the album was mixed in Roland Ivarsson's studio. Roland is a musician himself and he plays additional percussion. As always, the CD is overflown with dynamism, rhythm and all those traits that make Cochrane's music so special. The album includes five themes. The third one is an excellent seven-part suite (more than 27 minutes). All was first conceived about 15 years ago but then Steve had to shelve the project in favour of Heroes Awaken, his first work. Now, he has composed a new instrumental piece and made minor changes to the arrangements.
