One of Tibet's foremost modern musicians, Nawang translates the traditional sounds of Tibet's cultural and spiritual heritage into original compositions. When he was only three years old, his family travelled thousands of miles to India. When we came of age, Nawang ventured southest and became a monk in the Indian state of Orissa. It was there where he taught himself to play the flute. By the age of 20, he sought the tutelage of the great Dalai Lama and subsequently became a cave-dwelling hermit for four years, entrenched in meditation and philosophy. Finally ready to emerge from his self-imposed exile, Nawang travelled through Italy before moving to Australia. In Australia he taught himself to play the Aboriginal Didgeridoo, recorded three albums and became an Australian citizen.
In 1991 he has invited for a North American tour to celebrate the "Year of Tibet". During his stay he perfomed with Kitaro. The two musicians met, launched into a impromptu jam, and have been working together ever since. Now he lives in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
