German-born, pianist-composer Peter Kater lives and works out of upstate New York. He moved there after a few years' residence at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a thirteen residence in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Kater's debut album, Spirit, was released in 1983, and nineteen records have followed. These works range from inspired solo piano to full group projects. Nine of these recordings have reached the Top 20 on Billborad's New Age Chart, and all of them have tapped national radio airplay charts. When not recording, Peter Kater spends a good amount of his time performing in concert. He plays with Nakai, with Kater's group (in a three, four, or five player setting), and solo. He composes original scores for on- and off-Broadway plays. He also composes for television and film.
Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai, of Navajo-Ute heritage lives in Tucson, Arizona. He has released over 20 recordings on various labels, with most of his solo work is on Canyon Records. R. Carlos was originally trained in classical trumpet and began playing the Native American flute in 1977. He quickly mastered the traditional melodies of the plains and woodland tribes and soon began adapting them to fit his own style.
