EDITORIAL INFORMATION

For nearly five billion years, Earth has spun about the Sun, oblivious to, and untouched by, the universe beyond. But as the 21st century nears, this bubble of isolation threatens to burst. Telescopes have detected planets orbiting nearby stars. Scientists have opened an ancient rock from Mars, and found what appears to be evidence of early life. As the idea that other planets support biology gains credence, the standard view is that we share the universe, not just with life, but with intelligent, willful life. This book considers what present-day science can say about the nature of cosmic company, and answers the age-old question: With what kind of neighbors do we share the universe?

OUR REVIEW

This is a really fascinating book. Its author is one of the most prominent leaders in the scientific effort to find extraterrestrial intelligence, and here he tries to show us how we should look at this difficult problem. In doing so, he separates facts from fantasies, describing what is credible and what is not.

His arguments are those of science. So he examines the current trends towards the search of ET intelligence, what aliens will look like, possible abilities and behavior, origin... The UFO phenomenon is also considered form a skeptical point of view.

Easy to read and well written, this book is a very good introduction to this topic for interested readers.
