OUR REVIEW

Ronaldo Barthem and Michael Goulding have devoted this work to the most important catfish inhabiting the Amazon river. Their work not only contributes to the knowledge on these animals but also to their conservation.

Experts on Amazon fauna, the authors explain us where they live, how they feed, their migratory customs, their spawning habits, giving a special importance to the ecological aspects that should be applied to their preservation. Uncontrolled fishing of these fish endangers their existence, and Barthem and Goulding tell us how captures on a small and a large scale are carried out, as well as what should be done for their rational exploitation.

This is an attractive book for those readers who love nature, ecologists and people wishing to learn something more on the Amazon regions.
