EDITORIAL INFORMATION This is a candid and often humorous discussion between Hackerman and Ashworth on the problems scientists and society will face with reductions in government financial support for research, or with restrictive government directives. In dialogue that is accesible to laymen and policy makers, the authors explain why scientific research must be allowed to continue unfettered and undirected if humankind is to accrue its full benefits. OUR REVIEW Its title tells us all: Norman Hackerman and Kenneth Ashworth, both eminent scientists and educators, dialogue in a relaxed way on science and technology, as well as the utilization that is made of them, conforming an enriching experience that no doubt will be of interest to their defenders. Not everybody seems to have the same opinion, above all in the political spheres, so the authors illuminate the scientific future telling us how important an adequate financing to make both advance is for the progress of Humanity. This is an almost colloquial conversation, sometimes full of humor, yet brimming with enthusiasm and confidence. Thanks to this book, the reflections made by Hackerman and Asworth can be useful to spread the word to those who still don't understand the true value of science. |
