EDITORIAL
INFORMATION
Today's scientists make
discoveries and breakthroughts so rapidly that last
year's knowledge is already yesterday's news. Scientific
journals keep adults abreast of the most recent
developments in technology, medicine, astronomy, and
more. But no news source reports these developments to
young people in the kind of language and format that they
can grasp. No news source, that is, except Today's
Science On File--the first and only subscription
service to report and index science news for students
aged 12 and up.
From biology to chemistry to
outer space, students will quickly become engrossed in
the fast-breaking stories covered in Today's Science
On File. The inviting format, complete with lively
visuals and involvement devices, will draw them in
and--once intrigued--the absorbing articles will spark
learning and understanding of today's science news.
Published twelve times a year,
with ten issues appearing during the school year, Today's
Science On File brings today's science
breakthroughts right from the laboratory to the library
and classroom. Each issue provides thought-provoking
articles that cover hot scientific topics such as global
warming, AIDS, robotics, and gene therapy.
All of the information in Today's
Science On File can be quickly retrieved through a
new cumulative index tha comes with each issue and that
references material by both name and subject. Even novice
researchers can find what they want in no time at all. At
the same time, each indexed issue of Today's Science
On File helps build a permanent reference archive on
your library shelf.

OUR
REVIEW
Today's Science On
File is a true mine of scientific information and
divulgation in English. A publication that should be
present at public libraries, colleges and universities.
Its philosophy is very simple:
scientific discoveries take place at such a vertiginous
speed that the textbooks cannot display all this
knowledge with due promptness. There certainly are
specialized, periodical publications that solve this
problem, yet most of them are aimed at an adult
readership having a certain background.
Today's Science On
File, on the other hand, is aimed at young people
from 12 years old on, accommodating its articles and news
to the interests of those who in the future will have to
take the reins of scientific research. It appears monthly
and is distributed via subscription, in a format that can
easily be stored thanks to its ringed covers specially
designed for this purpose.
Each one of the issues published
addresses its readership in a clear, understandable
language, no matter the theme dealt with. The fields
covered by Today's Science on File range from
ecology and the environment, to medicine and health, the
life sciences (biology, botany, zoology), astronomy and
space exploration, technology, geology and meteorology,
to physics and to chemistry. The basic information comes
from no less than 25 periodicals and scientific
magazines, some of them being as important and well known
as Science, Nature, Discover, etc.
Each one of the articles
included are accompanied by an extensive bibliography and
a relation of key words that facilitate to continue with
the research on the theme dealt with in databases,
Internet, etc.
Periodically, the subscribers
receive a special issue where a complete index and a
glossary corresponding to the previous issues are
included, which increases their usefulness once they are
filed.
In a few words, this is a unique
publication in its genre that in 1997 has reached its
fifth volume and that has a promising future.
