LA RELATIVIDAD: Espacio, Tiempo y Movimiento is the result of the collaboration of two scholars, one of them a specialist in science, and the other in humanities, so as to explain in an easy to understand way to the "non-scientists" the origins and development of this theory. The first scientific (geocentric and heliocentric) models are analyzed, the theories by Galileo and all the classical theory of Newton's physics are contributed as well, so as to give way to Einstein's theories on special and general relativity. Last but not least, the cosmological consequences derived from this theory are likewise analyzed, so as to get to know the future of the Universe.

OUR REVIEW

The main objective of this wonderful work is to facilitate the comprehension of one of the theories that have influenced most our age, that of relativity, to the non-specialized reader lacking an adequate knowledge in mathematics or physics. By means of a clear, uncomplicated use of language, and utilizing the strictly necessary scientific terminology to develop their arguments, otherwise specified in the glossary at the end of the book, the authors make a very good job of explaining in a simple and understandable way complex concepts, so that the readers interested in such a fascinating issue can assimilate what might appear to be a complicated scientific reasoning beyond the scope of the normal knowledge of the average citizen, without problems. The plentiful illustrations and graphics accompanying the text, the didactic explanations in full detail yet without excessive mathematical of physical formulae, and the many different examples developed throughout the explanations, are the best way to make science accessible to a non-scientific readership.

Delo E. Mook, a professor of physics at the Dermouth College, and Thomas Vargish, a professor of English literature at the University of Maryland, succeed in transmitting in a clear way what they had intended with their collaboration in this work, starting from the most basic concepts established by Galileo and Newton to take us to Einstein's theories, in such a way that the students and the interested readers who have never been specially trained in the sciences yet who are keen on learning about the exciting field of current physics can get to know better the concepts that are the foundation of this science. The authors utilize numerous examples to illustrate their explanations, and the constant notes, diagrams and charts clarify many of the dark points the reader might find in the explanations being developed. The bibliographic suggestions at the end of the book aimed at those readers wishing to study the subject in further depth include precise information about the level of difficulty, so the interested readers can choose those books more in accordance with their level of knowledge. In a few words, this is a most adequate book specially apt for the library of all students and readers lacking a specific education in mathematics and physics but who want to understand what Einstein theorized about Relativity in all its aspects, in a clear, concise and complete way.
