EDITORIAL INFORMATION
With the concept of symmetry as the harmony of proportions, the
human being has tried to create and understand order, beauty and perfection. This book
presents a fascinating summary of the applications of the principle of symmetry in
physics, chemistry, biology, its role in the arts and its manifestations in organic as
well as inorganic nature.

OUR REVIEW
Symmetry is present both in nature and in artificial objects
created by the Human Being. The author examines from a mathematical viewpoint, not
without including philosophical reflections, the different kinds of symmetry that exist,
and their presence in natural or artificial structures. This implies tackling a varied set
of questions, from the biological ones to the artistic ones, for instance, to many other
kinds of questions as well.
Although Weyl's approach is mainly mathematical, and
therefore necessarily technical, this book can attract also those readers not necessarily
interested in mathematics, since symmetry has connotations of a very varied nature,
including the religious ones, which the author also mentions. |
