OUR REVIEW

Published in cooperation with the Old Royal Observatory of Greenwich, Astronony is the 14th volume of the well known series Eyewitness Science, whose main trait is the graphic wealth illustrating the themes dealt with in each work. Aimed at the young people or readers having a scarce knowledge in the matter, it presents each chapter in a double page format with little text, a lot of pictures and a great didactic value. The collection, published in Great Britain by Dorling Kindersley, is also published in several other languages, like for example Spanish. The themes we can find in this book are basically centered in the history of Astronomy (how the great astronomical findings took place) and the Solar system, with suitable descriptions of each one of its members. The last pages have been devoted to the space travellers, life of the stars, as well as our galaxy and beyond.

We will never cease to remark how important this kind of books is. Its simplicity and its devotion to divulge the sciences to a very definite sector in the readership, the one that not necessarily has got to have an updated knowledge about scientific novelties, has an invaluable merit. The success of such a prestigious collection is in a way a good indication of the interest awakened by Science in the people, as well as the moderate character this kind of works must have.
