EDITORIAL INFORMATION

Moon Shot is a compelling human drama of the sacrifices and risks asked of a small but remarkable group of astronauts who put their lives on the line as they led the way to the lunar landscape a quarter of a century ago. It's the story of those who built, launched, and flew America's spacecraft, a dramatic account of a decade of superpower rivalry, scientific discovery, and personal bravery.

Filled with fascinating details and a frank, knowledgeable assessment of the NASA program, Moon Shot reflects the risk, the excitement, and the accomplishments of the men who travelled faster and farther than any humans before them-and returned safely to tell their extraordinary tale.

OUR REVIEW

Thrilling. Thus can this work be considered. Moon Shot is not a mere tale more in the history of the conquest of space, but the live telling of the most important events as seen by two of the astronauts who participated in it from the beginning. Alan Shepard, the first American who travelled to space, and "Deke" Slayton, their leader, tell us from a unique perspective the evolution of what the subtitle refers to as The Inside Story of America's Race to the Moon. The authors make a great effort to dispose of technicalities, so that the result is a very interesting book aimed at a non-expert readership. With the thoroughness that only those who lived these events can offer, this book examines the American manned missions one by one. Joys and tragedies, personal disappointments, patriotic exaltations and heroic deeds, political fighting and competition, all these get intertwined thus shaping the narration of what has been the most important human adventure of all times. Slayton didn't live long enough to see the book published, so its authors make a special mention of this man, the perfect prototype and a model image of the pilot-astronaut. Inside the book, which by the way has wonderful front and back covers, we can find a valuable, rare selection of photographs which illustrate it perfectly well. In a word, and taking into account the advanced age some of the authors have reached, the book is a unique opportunity and a must for these readers who still want to know the particular version of the protagonists.
