EDITORIAL INFORMATION

The twenty-second Coral Gables conference Unified Symmetry: In the Small and In the Large, continued with the efforts to unify the small and the large. The information gathered with the Hubble telescope has in part, in the absence of the SSC, provided a basis for the physicists to unify cosmology and elementary particle physics.

Not only the physicists but non-physicists would also find great satisfaction in the achievement of unified symmetry in the large and in the small. It is this unification that will enable us to predict the nature of the very large from our complete understanding of the very small, and conversely, to predict the nature of the very small from the total knowledge of the very large. This is the same as the unification of cosmology with elementary particle physics. This has been and will continue to be the agenda of the Coral Gables conferences. Once again we offer these proceedings of the 1994 conference as the current contribution to the field of the unified theory and presently known experimental observations..

OUR REVIEW

Plenum Publishing, through their Plenum Press Division, New York, offer us a new book devoted to the popularization of the latest works developed about the theme mentioned in the book title. Like all books in its category, this is a publication aimed at specialists in physics and astrophysics, widely documented and referrenced, and containing the most important research authors in the field of unified symmetry.

The book is divided into five parts, each one of them dealing with different cosmological considerations and particle physics. Nevertheless, what the articles divulge is the important progress the new instruments are allowing for. In this sense, it always is important to show and explain such advances to the scientific community, a most wonderfully performed task undertaken by the conferences Coral Gables, that, fostered and sponsored by aerospace firms as well as public institutions, are contributing to making it possible. The conference we are referring to was held between the 27th and 30th. of January 1994, and was sponsored by Global Foundation Inc., in Coral Gables, Florida, USA. Unified Symmetry is a dense work aimed at specialists, and a gathering of articles that cannot be missed.
