OUR REVIEW

Although due to problems of last minute availability not all the papers presented during the aforementioned symposia have been published here, this work is an interesting as well as varied reflection of what happened there. No doubt we have one of the most remarkable contributions that the American Astronautical Society has been making since 1964. The "Science and Technology Series" has always been noteworthy in its untiring task to popularize astronautics, by releasing hundreds of lectures and presentations that otherwise would have remained unpublished for many people who could be interested in these themes. The authors of the texts stand out because of their importance in the space arena: Norman R. Augustine, George E. Brown, Joan-Johnson-Freese, Daniel Goldin and Alan L. Parker, among others. From very different viewpoints, all of them state the transition stage that modern astronautics is experiencing nowadays. Thus it is easy to conclude that it is necessary to improve the management structures of space programs, as well as to increase the system for international cooperation, and to promote the projects having the cheapest and fastest implementation, etc. In short, an attractive work for the reader, that, in a general way, intends to stay updated on the overall opinion from the point of view of the management institutions.
