MICHEL HUYGEN

"PLACEBO"

Neuronium Records

The new album by Michel Huygen, "Placebo", is a daring release. Showing that the artist is capable of giving true surprises, in this occasion he breaks with transcendental space adventures, and offers us a work dominated by rythm, far from cosmic lanes, yet radically electronic. A music brimming with dynamism, it injects vitality into the listener. Huygen links Classical Techno with Trance, Psychedelic Rock and even some areas of avantgarde Jazz. The palette of electrified, metalized sounds, contributes to create the cybernetic ambience towards which the cover of the album and the title of the first piece ("CyberEnergy") already hint. The structure of the CD is rythmic, sustaining the melodies in itself. Atmospheric percussion and powerful bass motives increase the strength of the rythm The sound effects that come and go throughout the entire album are not mere adornments, but rather constitute an integral part of rythm and melody. Furthermore, some of them appear to wink at the electronic devices more common in our cities.
