RYUCHY SAKAMOTO

"CINEMAGE"

Kab America / Sony Music

In this selection of 6 pieces, Ryuchi Sakamoto expresses musically visual events in an evocative, masterful way. His compositions reflect both the classical education of the artist and his fascination with experimentation, techno-pop, minimalism or Concrete Music, all of which he has os often reflected in movie soundtracks such as those in this album, a fact that has earned him an Oscar (The Last Emperor",1987), besides various Grammy awards. All that can be appreciated in this new album. Thus, in "Forbidden Colours", the song theme of the film "Merry Cristmas, Mr. Lawrence", is here rendered in a poetic version with Schubertian traits intertwined with Japanese folk airs. "The Last Emperor", with its slow, dark brush-strokes, gives way to the next piece, "Little Buddha", where a certain touch of hope shapes the somber environment previously created. "Wuthering Heights" is developed in a Romantic atmosphere. "Replica" is the most minimalist of the pieces in the album. "El Mar Mediterrani", inpired in the Olympic Games held in Barcelona, in 1992 could be the perfect soundtrack for their opening ceremonies, as it reflects the Catalan, typically Mediterranean color, together with the particular creativity of the artist. In all, a very commendable album for the followers of Sakamoto's musical career.
