The music on this double CD was originally issued on two albums, Numena, first published in 1987, and Geometry, first published in 1991. The four long electronic pieces that integrate Numena are each one a journey towards the unknown. All of them possess a decidedly mysterious, enigmatic character, like soundtracks for nocturnal walks in deserted rainforests. Geometry is one unusual album. Robert Rich explains: "When I began recording Geometry in 1986, I wanted to map certain mathematical relationships directly into musical structures". The result is interesting indeed. Rich utilizes synthesizers and sequencers to shape ten themes of an atmospheric and rhythmic kind, near to minimalism.
