ÍONA

"JOURNEY INTO THE MORN"

Blue Moon / Pepe Records

The fourth album of the band Íona is perhaps one of the best achievements by this now sextet. Joining their efforts with Maire Brennan (Clannad) and other well known musicians like Robert Fripp or Chris Eaton, they have created an album very much in the Celtic wave, yet also near to rock and pop, with a series of themes, like "Irish Day" or "Lindisfarne", which will appeal to a large audience. These are 14 songs of which only three are instrumental. A pleasant, melodic and very orchestral music, where the keyboards and the fine arrangements have a fundamental presence. As usual, the heavenly female vocals in the album provide it with a halo of almost religious spirituality. Nevertheless, "Journey into the Moon" is conceptually based on the eighteenth century Gaelic hymn "Be Thou My Vision", as well as on the book by David Adams "The Eye of the Eagle". Íona, then, give us their own original proposal near to the Celtic philosophy, yet one that at the same time explores new paths which may transform their particular vision of the music that is being created today.
