Frank Lorentzen has joined John Virkman in this work. The result is a meditative album, wrapped in the sounds of nature as well as the sweet, slow rhythms of the strange instruments played by the artists. The record is divided into two parts, Improvisation and Harmonising, each one of them also divided into seven pieces. In the first part we find a tonal succession that is aimed at pure relaxation, with the sounds of spring in the background and those of the "Singing Quartz Crystal Bowls" utilized by Lorentzen and Virkman in the forefront. These latter, numbering seven, tuned into the diatonic scale, provide a series of relaxing effects and those of mental harmonization, which is what is intended in this recording. According to Lorentzen, each tone possesses its own chakra, which affects to particular parts of the body. This is how the healing effects are achieved. In the second part, it is the sounds of dolphins and the ocean the ones in the background, under the sound of the crystal bowls. Just like its title indicates, here the main objective has been the search for spiritual harmony. Alpha is an interesting experimental work, leaving aside its mystic inclinations, whose sonic qualities make it attractive per se.
