What can we say of a very young musician that in such a short time has climbed to the highest peaks of Celtic music all over the world? A Irmandade das Estrelas is his first album, after some years of learning and continuous collaborations with other musicians of this genre. Perhaps this is why this sensational Galician piper, Carlos Núñez, has surrounded himself in this his first hit in the recording market with numerous and very important collaborators, not necessarily related to Celtic music, which enhances its value even more. With him such interesting people as the Chieftains, Ry Cooder, Luz Casal, Nightnoise, Dulce Pontes, Rafael Riqueni, la Vieja Trova Santiaguera and many others sing or perform as well. Núñez, a true virtuoso of the bagpipe, the flute, the whistle, the ocarina and the birimbao, has released such an extraordinary album that it cannot but awake enormous expectations on what the musician will be capable of doing in the future. In a short time, Núñez, partly thanks to his personal charm and his infinite warmth (at least with the press), has earned appreciation not only in Spain but also outside. His album is not only good, but also it is selling well and is commercial enough. What else can be asked of it? We would not wonder about a certain revival of traditional music, especially Celtic music, in Spain, thanks to this work. We will continue to pay attention to his career.
