VANGELIS

"OCEANIC"

Warner Music

Oceanic is one of the most ambient albums lately released by Vangelis. Obviously inspired in the sea, it supposes a further step forward in the gradual transformation of the Greek musician. The artistic maturity of Vangelis has allowed him to follow, within his style, multiple aspects of electronic music during the last 25 years. The era of innovation has been left behind to give way to a series of works (among which this Oceanic can be found) more predictable although equally convincing. The fans of Vangelis's music will find here many of the ingredients that characterize this musician since a decade ago. These are nine themes of an impeccable production, but with a more "standard" sound, less typical of the figure of Vangelis and nearer to the electronic music without any risks that is currently done. Perhaps the most remarkable theme is Song of the Seas, in which the melodic grandeur of the great Greek magician of keyboards is strongly present. Let us mention as well Memories of Blue, whose title (merely) reminds us of the famous Memories of Green, from the album See You Later and later used in the movie Blade Runner. In a word, this is a very pleasant work to listen to, which also uncovers for us a less experimental, less symphonic Vangelis.
