A team led by Alain Desjacques travelled during 1991-93 throughout Mongolia, recording musical religious rituals. This compact disc is a selection of the material they gathered. Each piece consists in a series of prayers accompanied with religious musical instruments. Most noteworthy are the ceremonies recorded within the monasteries. Given the geographical location of this nation, exposed to a wide range of cultural influences, as the centuries went by peculiar musical forms of liturgy have been shaped. With Lamaist Buddhism shamanic rituals as well as other rituals from different origins are intertwined.
