With Enya, the new musics have reached the highest peaks of popular fervor. Only because of this, what this artist of a scarce yet very careful production has done should be placed on a pedestal. What she does is so different and at the same time so attractive that its massive recognition (and therefore its commercial value) cannot be measured by means of the parameters we are used to handling. Her style is complex and inimitable, which deprives us from live performances and of a greater number of recordings, yet it might be better this way. Anyhow, although the basic ingredients that define Enya's music are already present in her former works, it was in Watermark where the recording business world made its great discovery, in 1988. Her enormous success in sales, improbable in an almost unknown artist and in these kinds of music, opened the season for her records to receive a greater attention on the part of the industry. Watermark contains true jewels whose stylistic quality opened the doors to media that before could have appeared to be permanently closed to her. It would be unfair to point out at any given one of her tracks: just enjoy each one of them.
