BRIEFS:

• On October 17, E-Live '98 was held at "De Vereeniging", Nijmegen, Holland. Some of the artists were John Dyson, Paul Ward, Ron Boots, Bernd Kistenmacher, Vidna Obmana, Mario Schonwalder, Detlef Keller and Bas Broekhuis. Mark J.T. Griffin, editor of "Albedo", the world-wide Vangelis fan club and the author of "Vangelis: The Unknown Man" gave an hour long presentation. Together with Mark came Raphael Preston, a sound engineer of Vangelis (he worked with Vangelis for several famous albums). By the way, the famous ex-Beatle Paul McCartney was at E-Live.
• From November 3 to 7, the Elektronmusikfestivalen will be held in Sweden. More information here: http://wwwalgonet.se/~icem/stemf.html
• Forrest Fang has been working with George Coates Performance Works on a collaborative multimedia theater work for voices, instruments, tape and actors, in conjunnction with video and light projections, computer animations and visual illusions.
• Mark Jenkins released a limited edition CD, Synprovisation at his opening performance for the 4th UK Jean-Michel Jarre Convention in Aston University in late August. Sterling Publishing Co. Inc of New York have published "Sleep Well Tonight" by Harriet Griffey, with a 60-minute CD of otherwise unreleased music by Jenkins. He has also completed music for two further books, on relaxation and on meditation, to appear later this year.
• On November 4, Pete Namlook will give a live performance at the Astoria Theatre in London, UK. He will be supported by Alquimia (who has recently been in Mexico working on new material), and the new dark ambient duo Modulus. Dark side of the Moog 7 (by Namlook & Klaus Schulze) is due to be released on November 3.
• Internet-based record label No Type Drones releases three albums in MP3 format for free distribution: Anaesthesia by Anaesthesia, Leonard Nimoy by Oeuf Korreckt, and Bedroom Videofeed by Asyncdrone. More information here: http://www.notype.com/drones/

October 28, 1998. FIFTH FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSIC  OF BARCELONA.

From October 21 to December 12, The fifth "Festival de Musiques Contemporanies de Barcelona" will be held  in Barcelona, Spain. This festival is organized by the Institut Municipal de Cultura de Barcelona, the Centre de Cultura Contemporania de Barcelona and the Museu d'Art Contempoarani de Barcelona. Some of the artists to participate are: Ensemble Modern, Jonde, Joan Grimalt, Enric Palomar, Danat Dansa, Barcelona 216, Jesus Rodriguez, Pilar Lopez Carrasco, Josep Ramon Sanchez, Grupo Enigma, Paul Cortese, Michel Wagemans, Maria Hussman, Simon Stockhausen, Ensemble Mosaik, Lluis Avendaño, Tim Brady, Jean Piere Dupuy, Gabriel Brncic and Adolfo Nuñez.

BRIEFS:

• Users of BowieNet (www.bowienet.net), the David Bowie's new Internet service, will be able to experience intimate live-action views of Bowie thanks to FullView, a 360-degree panoramic Webcam designed by Bell Labs. BowieNet, which launched September 1, is a joint venture between Concentric Network Corporation and Ultrastar Internet Services.
• A special edition 2 CD set celebrating Paul Winter's career;  Paul Winter - Greatest Hits, is due for release in the  USA on October 27. This special edition 2 CD set of 30 tracks includes an enhanced CD presenting the history of the Paul Winter Consort and Living  Music, as well as new recordings.  Paul Winter has just returned from a successful tour of Japan. Performing solo concerts in Aomori in the north, Yokohama near Tokyo, and in the far southern island of Okinawa, he was joined by local Japanese musicians in a special feature at the end of each concert.
• FUSIC is a french attempt for boosting musical fusion, which is a growing tendency of  the french music. This campagne is sponsored by two great artists, Jean-Michel Jarre and Deep-Forest, and sustained by the French minister of culture, Catherine Trautmann. The artists can use Fusic logos on concert advertisements and on CD covers. Fusic logos are constituted by two (or more) colored bars and a F key. Each bar represents the color of a style of music . The first bar represents the first influence of the artist, the second bar represents the second influence.

October 8, 1998. NEURONIUM NEWS.

A double CD has just been released in Spain, with the two first Neuronium albums on the EMI-HARVEST label. Inside, a 16 pages booklet is included with the full story of Michel Huygen / Neuronium,and his complete discography is also featured. A new and recently composed  track by Neuronium has just been released on a new CD sampler by the company Lektronic Soundscapes (USA).The title is "MEGALUZ" (Megalight, in English).The piece of music is more than 11 minutes long and totally cosmic. Huygen is composing the music of the next Neuronium album, with the return of Santi Pico playing his amazing guitar. The title of the future new Neuronium CD is ALIENIKON. Psykya and Infinito will be re-released in Brazil soon.

October 8, 1998. NEW RELEASE BY VANGELIS.

El Greko (new version) is the new album by Vangelis. The original version of El Greko was first conceived and composed in 1995 as a direct response to the quest of the National Gallery of Greece to acquire the painting of 'St. Peter', one of Domenikos Theotokopoulos's (El Greko's) finest works. The master painter of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries was born in Crete but eventually settled in Spain, and most of his work remains outside his homeland. Vangelis immediately became involved in the attempt to secure the painting for the Athens Gallery, first by encouraging public subscription, and then by composing an entire musical work, dedicated to El Greko. The recording, produced in a special, boxed limited edition of 3,000 signed copies was made available through the National Gallery. Enthusiasm for the project was enormous and the painting has remained in Greece as a result. Inevitably, there has been a huge demand for the commercial release of  this recording. After much consideration, Vangelis has reassembled the movements of the original composition and has added three new pieces to expand his original conception and place it in a new light.
