BRIEFS:
- From June 9 to 13 , SONAR: the Barcelona concert by Michel Huygen, will be
released. This CD contains the memorable performance by Huygen in
Barcelona, Spain, on June 17, 1995, at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània,
the closing concert of the Advanced Music festival SONAR 95. The album
will be presented at SONAR 97. This is his first live release since From
Madrid to Heaven.
- On May 23, Alain Baumann will give a live performance at La Ñola, in
Barcelona, Spain. He will play computer and clarinet.
- On May 23, Jorge Calvo will give a live performance at Café Del Sol,
in Barcelona, Spain. He will play guitars, keyboards and sequencers.
- On May 23, Sergi Jordà will give a live performance at Mi Bar, in
Barcelona, Spain. He will play computers.
- On May 24, Joan Saura will give a live performance at Galpón Sur, in
Barcelona, Spain. He will play keyboards.
- On May 24, Anton Ignorant will give a live performance at Galería
Metropolitana de Barcelona, in Barcelona, Spain. He will play guitars and tapes.
- On May 24, Zush will give a live performance at Associació
Heliogàbal, in Barcelona, Spain. He will play the Mini-Moog synthesizer.

KAT ANNOUNCES DOMINATRIX MUSIC VIDEO. The Great Kat,
Juilliard graduate violin virtuoso/Cyberspeed guitarist announced yesterday the release of
the new music video, Dominatrix from her highly-acclaimed new CD, Guitar
Goddess. Dominatrix was produced and created by The Great Kat,
and directed by Madj Ebadi, of CBC Media in Port
Washington, NY. Dominatrix showcases The Great Kats guitar
virtuosity and outrageous persona as the High-Priestess of Guitar Shred.

BRIEFS:
- On October, Constance Demby will be the star musician at the electronic
music festival organized by the Dutch association KLEM.
- Miguel A. Ruiz (Orfeón Gagarin) has engaged a new
musical project during this last year: Exhaustor, of which a first CD has
already been released. The artist will perform live at the Sonar
festival, in the city of Barcelona, Spain, on June 12. He recently performed at the Muestra
de Música Ambient in León, and at the Soma Club in Madrid.
- Sonar 97, the Fourth International Festival of Advanced Music
and Multimedia Art, will be held in Barcelona, Spain, on June 12, 13, 14. The
events will take place at the Centre de Cultura Contemporania de Barcelona
(CCCB), the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA)
and the Pavelló Esportiu de la Mar Bella. Around 200 artists will
participate in the festival.
- On June 4, Women of Sodom will give a performance at Avalon, in Boston,
USA.
- Balseros is the new opera by Robert Ashley. It has a libretto
by Maria Irene Fornes based on interviews with Cubans who crossed the
Florida straits on rafts.
- From June 16 to 20, Hurta Cordel '97, a festival of improvised music,
will take place in Madrid, Spain. Several of the scheduled artists are Voice
Crack, Wade Matthews, Hyperion and Pedro Lopez.
- On June 20 and 21, the Theremin Festival will take place at the Portland
Performing Arts Center, in Portland, Maine, USA. Thereminists Eric Ross
and Lydia Kavina will perform several works with the amazing electronic
instrument invented by Leon Theremin in the 20's. Robert Moog,
Elliott Schwartz, Olivia Mattis and Albert Glinsky will give
some lectures.
- Between June 15 and 29, a series of workshops in music technology, including sequencing
and synthesizer programming, will take place at Oberlin College, Oberlin,
Ohio, USA.
- On June 16 through August, a series of CCRMA workshops about computers
and music will take place at the Center for Computer Research in Music and
Acoustics (CCRMA), at Stanford University, in Palo Alto,
California, USA.
- In The Mirror is a special collection of compositions spanning Yanni's
career in the 80's and early 90's. The recordings are fully re-mastered using 20 bit
technology.
- EMI Gold are re-releasing a series of Ultravox and Midge
Ure solo CDs. Rage In Eden is scheduled for distribution around June.
Another work could be released in the Autumn.

UK, May 13. NEW WORKS
BY JOHN FOXX. Cathedral Oceans was released on March 24. It has been
developing and accumulating since 1983. Early performances of Cathedral Oceans
were made in 1987 in Rome and London. The Shifting City is a collaboration with Louis
Gordon, and this was released on March 24 also. Translucence, a
long-awaited collaboration with Harold Budd, will be released around the
end of this year or the beginning of 1998.

- Henry Cowell's Musical Worlds is an exhibit marking the centennial year of the
late composer and celebrating his music and life, open through May 17 at the New York
Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, USA.
- On May 18, Petals by Kaija Saariaho will be performed at the
Bloomingdale House of Music, New York City, USA.
- On May 18, a new piece by Julia Wolfe will be performed at the Alice
Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, in New York, USA.
- On May 20, Pari e Dispari by Sofia Gubaidulina will be
performed by the New Music Consort, conducted by Claire Heldrich,
at the Manhattan School of Music, New York City, USA. On May 28, another piece by Gubaidulina,
Ein Engle..., will be performed at the International Association of Women in
Music, Los Angeles, CA, USA.
- On May 20, 22, 25, 28, 31, June 1, Kaamos (choreography after String
Quartet No.2) and The Volkmann Suite composed by Michael Nyman
will be performed at the Joyce Theater, New York City, USA.
- On May 21, music by Barry Truax, David Jaffe, John Duesenberry, Todor Todoroff,
Jonty Harrison, James Paul Sain, Pete Stollery and others will be performed at
Northern College, Aberdeen, Scotland, UK.
- On May 24, Kraftwerk will give a performance in Luton Hoo, England.
- On May 28, Laurie Anderson will give a live performance at
Museumsinsel, in Bonn, Germany.
- On May 29, the Ensemble Xenakis, conducted by Charles Zachary
Bornstein, will perform these pieces by Iannis Xenakis:
"Analogique A and B" "Embellie", "Palimpsest",
"Thallein" and "Waarg". The concert will take place at the Great Hall
at Cooper Union, in New York City, USA.
- On May 29, the Kronos Quartet and Wu Man will perform Ghost
Opera by Tan Dun, in Rome, Italy.
- On May 29, Lick by Julia Wolfe will be performed in Evanston,
IL, USA.
- On May 30, a new opera by John Eaton, commissioned by Boston Musica Viva,
will be played at the Tsai Performance Center of Boston University, USA.
- On May 30 and 31, the next events in the Son-Mu Festival will be
presented by the Groupe de Recherches Musicales at the Maison de Radio
France, in Paris, France. These will include works by Jean-Claude Risset, Lelio
Camilleri, Daniel Teruggi and others.
- On May 31, the Fourth EMMA Electronic Music festival will take place at
the Assembly Rooms, Derby, UK. Featuring artists will be: Mind Over Matter,
Waveshape, Harvey Bainbridge, Bekki Williams, Tranquility Bass, and Kinetik.
- On June, Joy Harjo & Poetic Justice will give a tour in Germany and
Austria.
- Jonn Serrie plans to perform in Spain.
- Krysztof Penderecki gave a lecture at the Reina Sofia Museum, in
Madrid, Spain.
- Stirlitz is the artistic name of an interesting electronic musician
from Kaliningrad (a small state in the CIS that must not be mistaken for the city of the
same name). His music is innovative. In it he combines elements from Techno, Space Music
and others of a much more difficult description. His work Irrelayer is an
excellent sample of his music.

- On May 9, Ensemble Ictus will perform at IRCAM, Paris,
France, a new composition for live electronics by Magnus Lindberg.
- Big Chill Spring Vibes : An all-night indoor festival in 4 rooms.

- On May 9, Rainforest by Barton and Priscilla McLean
will be presented at the Albany Center Galleries, Albany NY, USA. It is an
audience-interactive installation in which members of the public become the performers,
triggering sounds and images from around the world.
- The Musique Action Festival will take place in Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy,
France, from May 9 to 19. Some of the artists to participate are: Ensemble Aleph,
Guy Klucevsek, Pascal Contet, Jean-Pierre Drouet, Derek Bailey, Tony Oxley, Francoise
Matringe, Monica Jordan, and Christophe Roy. Several of the
expositions and installations are: "L'accordeon d'hier a aujourd'hui" (CCAM),
"Portait sonore de Daunik Lazro" (CCAM), installation by Frederick Le
Junter (Ecole d'Architecture).
- On May 10, Chemical Brothers will give a live performance at Shrine
Expo, in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
- Jean Michel Jarre has remastered five of his albums: Oxygene,
Equinoxe, Houston-Lyon, Images and Chronologie. The release date is
scheduled for May 12. Jarre has used 96KHz, 24 bit mastering at
MasterDisk studios in New York, achieving a sound bigger and full of warmth according to
some reports. On the other hand, Oxygene 7-13 has earned its first Gold disc in
Spain. The "Oxygene 10" single is being prepared for an imminent release. This
single includes some remixes by Sash, Apollo 440, Loop Guru, and Resistance
D.
- Between May 14 and 18, the 3rd annual electronic arts festival Body Electric
will take place at The Western Front, Vancouver, Canada.
- On May 15, the Orchestra of the S.E.M. Ensemble will perform works by Pauline
Oliveros, Kotik, Maria de Alvear, and Alvin Lucier, at Merkin
Concert Hall, New York City, USA.
- On May 17, The Ensemble Modern will give a live performance with music
by Frank Zappa, Charles Ives and Conlon Nancarrow at
Grosser Saal, Konzerthaus, Vienna, Austria.
