BRIEFS:

On January 12, Jean Michel Jarre gave a live performance at the FIFA gala awards.
Battery Cage will give a live on-air performance on WMFO's GoDaM Governed By Electronics 91.5 FM (USA), January 27th between 10:00p.m. and Midnight. Product is the upcoming release by Battery Cage.
On January 31, Von Magnet will give a live performance at Ris Orangis, in Paris, France.
On February 15 and 16, The London Philarmonic Orchestra will perform at Konzerthaus Grosser Saal, Vienna, Austria, some music by Gyorgy Ligeti (Clocks and Clouds - Atmospheres - Lontano - Apparitions).
On February 19, the live multimedia concert Explorations in Space will be held at the Langford Auditorium at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, USA. The headliner for the evening will be Robert Fripp and his Frippertronics.
On February 22, Klangforum Wien will perform at Konzerthaus Mozart Saal, Vienna, Austria, some music by Gyorgy Ligeti and Sofia Gubaidulina.
Kraftwerk are to release a new album and perform live in London. Kraftwerk's Ralf Hutter has confirmed that the band are "hard at work" in their Kling Klang Studios on the new album which is scheduled for a late-1998 release.

BRIEFS:

A limited edition CD single by Mike Oldfield has been released featuring Mike Oldfield's "Reel", together with multimedia content for both Mac and Windows 95 users, basically an enhanced version of the WEA Mike Oldfield web with a full Women of Ireland video.
WEA released XXV, The Essential Mike Oldfield, a compilation album featuring excerpts from Oldfield's albums, and the unreleased piece "Tubular Bells III", an excerpt from the forthcoming album.
Simon Jeffes, leader of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, died on December 11, following treatment of a serious brain tumour. All of us at Amazing Sounds are saddened by his death.
Womad'97 was held in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, Spain. With respect to the performances given by the different musicians taking part in the event, the most remarkable ones were by Van Morrison, Patricia Kraus, Ghostland, Zap Mama, among other interesting artists.
The 8th Festival of Visual Music of Lanzarote was held at the giant natural caverns of Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua, at the island of Lanzarote (Spain). The program of concerts included the performances by Terry Riley, Andreas Vollenweider, Daniel Lentz, Ingram Marshall, Miasma, among other artists.
On January 15 and 17, Andrew Davis will conduct Toronto symphony orchestra in Oliver Messiaen' s Turangalia Symphonie, in Toronto, Canada. Jean Laurendeau will play the Ondes Martenot.
The new organizers of the KLEMdag festival will be Ron Boots, Kees Aerts and some other people.
