From November 6 till December 4, 1996, the Tercer Festival de Músiques Contemporanies de Barcelona ("Third festival of Contemporary Musics of Barcelona") was held in this city. The program of concerts included the performances by Gabriel Brncic, Eduardo Polonio, Horacio Vaggione, Oriol Graus, Cañizares & Gasull & Resina, Orquestra del Caos, Taller del CGAC, Companyia Danat Dansa, William Lacey, Suzana Stefanovic, and Barcelona 216, among others, who performed their own compositions or those by other artists such as Steve Reich (his work City Life, 1995, was premiered in Spain), Luigi Nono, Francisco Guerrero, Arnold Schoenberg, Josep Soler and others. Besides the concerts, there also were lectures, discussion panels, exhibitions, a symposium and a crash-course, held by some of the participant musicians as well as other specialists in Contemporary and Electroacoustic Music. The organizer institutions were the Centre de Cultura Contemporania de Barcelona ("Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona"), the Museu d'Art Contemporani ("Contemporary Art Museum"), and the Institut de Cultura de l'Ajuntament de Barcelona, with the support of the Phonos Laboratory (devoted to the research in electronic music and new musical technologies), the Associació Catalana de Compositors ("Catalan Association of Composers"), and other institutions.
