Jean-Pierre Bedoyan is a native of Toulouse (Southern France). After studying percussion with Sylvio Gualda he became a member of the percussion ensemble Les Percussions de Strasbourg. He toured and recorded extensively in Europe and Japan for six years with them, and worked with such composers as John Cage, Pierre Boulez, and Iannis Xenakis. He has also been active in the art performance scene, has recorded with various (preferably obscure) bands and written music for dance, theater and film, Bedoyan has lived in Los Angeles since 1990, has collaborated with Jacques Heim since then,and, along with Juliet Prater has been a composer and performer with the Diavolo Dance Theater since it was founded in 1992.
