Pete Seeger, one of the most mythical artists of American Folk, was born in 1919. He began his musical career in the forties, first as a member of the bands The Almanac Singers, and The Weavers, and years later he began his solo career yet quite often he counted with the collaboration of other artists. Involved from a very young age in pacifist movements as well as in others in support of the civil rights, these themes have been very much present in the messages that he has wanted to convey with his music. This fact caused him some trouble with the American government during the McCarthyism era in the fifties. He was imprisoned for a year, and for seventeen years he remained in a black list, and could not appear on TV, radio or importat concert halls. In the sixties, with the Hippie revolution, as well as the social changes that the search for a greater freedom led by the young caused, Seeger's career was re-launched. In 1994, the musician was awarded the Presidential Medal of the Arts. In 1997, he was awarded the Grammy in the Folk category.
