HAROLD BUDD

Composer, pianist and poet Harold Budd is a remarkable promoter of the American musical avantgarde. In the mid sixties he began to compose experimental pieces, often of a Minimalist character. In the early seventies, when he worked as a professor at the California Institute of the Arts, he made new compositions that already had enough difusion to reveal him as a musician in a clear opposition to any conventional musical dogmas. An example of this was his Madrigals of the Rose Angel for the Topless Female Chorus, in 1972. In this decade he began to receive important shows of appreciation towards his work. In the eighties, he increased his production of solo records or others in collaboration with other musicians, an activity that has helped him become a famous artist in the international panorama of the alternative musics. Some of the artists that have collaborated with him are Brian Eno, Michael Hoenig, Daniel Lentz, Andy Partridge and Hector Zazou.
